Typhoon "RAMIL" as of 11:00 p.m. today, 23 October 2009 has maintained its strength as it moves north, northeast slowly at 140 kms East, Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan 10:00 p.m.(19.3°N, 122.8°E ) with a maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is forecast to move north northeast slowly by Saturday evening 200 kms Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan; Sunday evening, 260 kms Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan; and Monday evening 340 kms North Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 190 kms Northeast of Basco, Batanes.
Areas having public storm warning signal are Batanes Group, Babuyan, Calayan Islands (Signal No.3 with 100-185 kph winds), Northern Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Apayao (Signal No.2 with 60-100 kph winds), and rest of Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Abra and Kalinga (Signal No. 1 with 30-60 kph winds.
Public storm warning signals elsewhere now lowered. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under signals No. 3, 2 and 1 are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides. Those living along the coast in areas under signals No. 2 and 3 are advised to be on alert against storm surge and big waves generated by the typhoon.
