Poems- Children Around the World

A poem is a complete and self-contained piece of writing in verse that is set out in lines of a particular length and uses rhythm, imagery, and often rhyme to achieve its effect.

Here are some examples of my own and collected interesting poems:

Children Around the World

Some children are brown like newly baked bread.
Some children are yellow and some are red.
Some children are white and some almost blue.
Their colors are different - the children like you..

Some children eat porridge and some eat figs,
Some children like ice cream and some roasted pigs,
Some eat raw fishes and some Irish stew –
Their likings are different – the children like you.

Some children say “yes” and some say “oui”,
Some say “ja” and some say “si”,
Some children say “peep” and some say “booh” –
Their words may be different – the children like you.
Some children wear sweaters and some rebozos,
Some children wear furs and some kimonos,
Some children go naked and wear only their queue.
Their clothes may be different – the children like you.

Some children have houses of stone in the streets,
Some in igloos, and some live in flats,
Some live in cold straw huts and some in new –
Their homes may be different – the children like you.

Some children are Finnish and some from Japan,
Some are Norwegian and some from Sudan.
Oh, yes, we have children in valleys, in pike.
Their countries are different – the children alike.

Oh, if they could dance and if they could play
Altogether a wonderful day!
Some could come sailing and could just hike.So much would be different – the children alike.

Poems- MY FAITHFUL FRIENDS

MY FAITHFUL FRIENDS

If my friends are quite few
And you have a work lot more,
You may think that you are wealthy
And that I am very poor.

In thinking so, you’re wrong, my friend,
And I can tell you why,
Since I have many friends
That wealth can never buy.

I watch the beauty of the sunset
And the glory of the sunrise;
I behold the twinkling star on high
That beautify the heavenly skies.

I peace I wander through the forests,
Over tall mountains or rolling hills;
I seek the hiding place of flowers
Or walk by flowing rills.

I admire the fragrance of the flowers
And the freshness of the morning dew,
The ferns that in the meadows grow,
And violets so blue.

I see the beauty in the raindrops
That from heaven fall to the ground
Or the glistening colors in the rainbow
As they shine all around.

I have stood upon a sandy shore
To gaze far out to sea,
Ever thankful for the worldly things
That I have live to see.

I’m grateful for the air I breathe
And the water that I drink
So now, friend, you see why,
I am richer than you think.

Poems- The blind Men and the Elephant

The Blind Men and the Elephant

It was six men of Indostan,
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The first approached the elephant,
And, happening to fall
Against his board and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl;
“God bless me! But the elephant,
Is very like a wall”

The second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, “ho! What have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me ‘tis mighty clear
This wonder of an elephant
Is very like a spear!”

The third approached the animal,
And, happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake;
“I see.” Quoth he, “ the elephant
Is very like a snake”

The fourth reached out an eager hand,
A felt about the knee.
“What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain, “quoth he;
“Tis clear enough the elephant
I very like a tree!”

The fifth, who chanced touch the ear,
Said, “E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an elephant
Is very like a fan!”

The sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
“I see,” quoth he, “the elephant
Is very like a rope!”

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long
Each is his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Poems- Child’s Prayer for Other Children

Child’s Prayer for Other Children

Little children everywhere,
White, yellow, black or brown,
Sleeping here at home with me
Or in some foreign town.

Bless them all and keep them safe
Within Your love, dear God,
Little children everywhere,
Both here and far abroad.

You are the Father of us all,
Of them as well as me,
And black or yellow, brown or white,
We are Your family.

You are the Father of us all,
And all are in Your care,
The little children sleeping
Both here and everywhere.

Poems- When the Day’s Hot or Cold

When the Day’s Hot or Cold

On a morning cold and rainy
When strong winds rule the day,
A ray of sun I long to see
To drive the cold away.

But when the day’s too hot to play
Too hot for fun and ease,
The beach is just the place to stay
To feel the gentle breeze.

Or else, I merely stay at home
Though warm the weather be,
A gentle touch and pretty soon
A big fan whirls for me.

The Sea

The sea! the sea! the open sea!
The blue, the fresh, the ever free!
Without a mark, without a bound;
It runs the earth’s wide regions round;
It plays with the clouds, it mocks the skies;
Or, like a cradled creature, lies.

I love, Oh, how I love to ride
On the fierce, foaming, bursting tide,
When every mad wave drowns the moon
Or whistles loud its stormy tune,
And tells how goes the world below
And why the southwest winds to blow.

Poems- SAVING MOTHER EARTH

SAVING MOTHER EARTH

You will never have a river
Steady and sure in its flow
Unless in the upper reaches
Tree verdant and helpful grow.

And ne’er will you find a forest,
Wide and refreshing and grand
Unless it is nourished by rivers
That flow through, renewing the land.
