BIOGRAPHY OF ANDRES BONIFACIO
Andres Bonifacio was born on November 30, 1863 in a shack in Tondo, Manila. His parents are Santiago Bonificio and Catalina de Castro. He started his early education in the school of Guillermo OsmeƱa of Cebu. He reach only primary school, he was orphaned at the age 14, forcing him to quit his studies.
He supplemented his low education through reading and self study. Among the few books he read were Rizal's novels, the lives of presidents, Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, the ruins of Palmyra and French Revolution. Those books prodded his spirit of rebellion and organize the Katipunan. This organization spread rapidly in 1894/ Feeling that he was about ready to lead a successful revolt in May 1896. Before he could act however.
The Katipunan was discovered by the authorities, more than 1,000 Katipuneros assembled with him at Pugad Lawin,Caloocan, on August 23, 1896. Bonifacio and his men ill, equipped, tired, hungry and with little aid face3d their enemies and encountered undertain victories and severe defeats. Amn assembly was called at Tejeros, Cavite. In the election Aquinaldo was elected president, Mariano Trias, vice President and Bonifacio as secretary was offended and revoking his authority as the supreme head of the Katipunan, declared the proceedings void. Bonifacio moved to Naic, Cavite and started to form his own government. Meantime General Camilo de Polavia threatened to capture Cavite. Aguinaldo ordered Gen. Pio del Pilar and Noriel who were being given new higher positionsto leavetheBonifacio camp and goback to their duties.
Aguinaldo sent men to arrest Bonifacio. He face trialfor actinimical to the existence of the new government and was given the death sentence by a military tribunal. Aguinaldo's men executed him in the mountain of Maragondon, Cavite on May 10, 1897.
