Typhoon Ondoy Review

As we have heard from the news, Metro Manila was hit by the tropical storm called “Ondoy” (or internationally called as “Ketsana”) last September 26, 2009 which brought almost a month-worth of rainfall for a duration of about six hours that cause to flood reaching almost up to five meters deep in some areas. Many people were found dead, injured and missing due to flashfloods and landslides. Some were sheltered in evacuation camps and schools around Metro Manila, Rizal and other areas placed by the government under a state of national calamity while others are outside evacuation centers, mostly with relatives.

According to the news the amount of rainfall from Ondoy from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM measured 341 millimeters which almost equaled to the average monthly rainfall in the Philippines. It is said to be the highest recorded rainfall in the area in 42 years. So, it is meant that this area have experienced many typhoon hits in history than any other part in the country.

Until now, the government, television networks, other groups and concerned citizens are pleading for relief goods, cash and medicines for the thousands of affected families in cramped evacuation centers.

What comes up in my mind is why, what the cause and why most of the time typhoon is happening in Metro Manila. Isn’t this an alarming sign from above to turn back the nature as it was or time for the people to repent and renew?

How many times would it happen again and again before everyone would have realized the cause of this tragic disaster? How many times would many livelihood and family members be swept away by the deluge of the raging waters before they are found alive or dead? How much more money would be lost due to crops and properties damages and how much more debts our government would have everytime if we will not act hard?

Now is the time to realize and act. Speaking of nature, it may have its own laws that no one should ever usurp. I believe that programs for preservation and protection of our nature can help. It must go on and be fully supported by our government and never be abused by anyone anyhow. I think this helps. Whatever God's plan will be and why He allow this happening to us, no one knows..

  1. I hope God sends help to those people there. But God has sent his Son,the LORD Jesus Christ to die for all our sins on the cross,2000 years ago,he was buried, and rose from the dead the third day,was seen of men,and went back up to heaven. We can have eternal life in heaven by repenting of our sins against God and trusting Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour and God. 2. Maybe some people there are getting worst which God needs to remind them to repent for their sins but sad to say that many good people are being affected.
